East Pandora Residence

This house was designed for a standard long and narrow single town lot located in East Telluride on a steep south-facing slope with views of the Bear Creek Drainage and the surrounding peaks.

The location is just outside the Historic Residential District, and the design shares the traditional simple form and roof detailing found in the historic structures nearby.

The lot dimensions suggested a long narrow rectangular plan. The building mass steps back from the street at the upper levels, creating open decks over living spaces on the south side that serve as outdoor extensions of the living room and master bedroom.  The three levels of the house are linked by stacked open stairways, illuminated from above by skylights.  The single gabled roof is supported by exposed Douglas fir rafters with steel collar ties, which are exposed in vaulted spaces at the upper level.
