North Oak Street Remodel

North Oak Street was historically one of the most desirable residential neighborhoods of town, due to its central location on the sunny north side.

One of the goals of this project was to restore some architectural simplicity to a house that had lost much of its original character to a Neo-Victorian remodel in the 1980s that created a highly ornamented and busy, colorful exterior.  Historic photographs of the property depicted a much simpler building, more consistent with the era of its original construction.  Our intent was to respect the historic integrity of the house and take it from its present condition to something much closer to the original design.

We worked with the foundation and footprint existing shell but simplified the roof and altered the interior to provide more open spaces and clear lines of circulation.  These were finished in a limited palette of materials with simple detailing and custom casework fitted to tight spaces.  Light and neutral finishes provided a quiet backdrop for the Owners’ collection of art and furnishings.
